Juvenile Delinquency

Rights of Juveniles:
  • The U.S. Supreme Court has recognized that juveniles have many of the constitutional due process rights afforded adult defendants: the right to counsel, the right to notice of the charges against them, the right to confront and cross-examine witnesses, and the right against self-incrimination. In re Gault, 387 U.S. 1 (1967).
  • Juveniles have the right not to incriminate themselves.
  • Wyoming law requires that juveniles, and their parents, guardian or custodian, be advised by the Court of their right to be represented by counsel at every state of the proceedings.
Do I Really Need an Attorney?
  • Juveniles facing delinquency proceedings should understand that IF a child is found to be delinquent, there are serious consequences. A delinquent child may be removed from the home--placed in foster care, treatment facilities, or even Girls/Boys School.
  • If a Delinquency petition has been filed against a juvenile, it is important to obtain an experienced Juvenile Defense Attorney.
